Artist Bio

Perihan S. Kucukosman is a Turkish-born, Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice bridges cultural heritage, emotional memory, and contemporary expression. After many years as an educator with the Turkish Ministry of National Education, she continued her artistic development in Canada, earning a Postgraduate Degree in Art Education and Community Engagement from Centennial College.
Her work has been featured at Nuit Blanche Toronto, the Happening Multicultural Festival, Dream, Bloom, and exhibitions organized by the Women’s Art Association of Canada, including the 2026 exhibition The Soul in the 5 Form at the Etobicoke Civic Centre Art Gallery. Committed to community engagement, she designs participatory art programs for newcomers, women, and children, framing art as a space for healing and empowerment.
In 2025, she completed an international residency with MUSE Arts in Colombia and continues to collaborate with the organization through exhibitions and artistic projects. She continues to deepen her photography skills, possessing a keen observational ability and visual compositional talent. Her abstract expressionist language transforms emotion into colour, rhythm, and movement, shaped by migration, lived experience, and her ongoing dialogue with nature.

Artist Statement

I create art to explore belonging, memory, and resilience. Having moved between cultures, I reflect on identity—how it shifts, endures, and transforms. Relocating to a new country reshaped not only my life but also how I perceive color, space, and silence. These experiences shape the emotional landscapes within my work.
I believe that no matter where we are born, we belong to this world, and art helps us remember that. This belief stands at the core of my practice. I am interested in how emotions live in the body and how visual language can express what words sometimes cannot.
Working primarily in abstraction allows freedom for both myself and the viewer. I build layered surfaces using paint, texture, and textile elements. Strong tactile marks, circular movements, and contrasting reds and blues evoke intensity, reflection, continuity, and change. Through this process, I transform personal experience into a shared visual language of connection and resilience.
